UNCOMMON TRUST IN GOD

The book, Uncommon Trust in God: The Recent History of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, by Sr. Kathleen Keating, SSJ has just been published, This work emphasizes the events of the last 25 years but they are set in the context of the changes brought about after the Second Vatican Council. Sr. Kathleen, who has served as both president of the congregation and of the College of Our Lady of the Elms, combines her own experience with research so it is her voice that speaks. The books can be purchased by calling Sister Kathleen at Mont Marie, Holyoke, 536-0853 ext 408.

The cost is $20. For postage and handling add another $4.

volunteer? The Divine Mercy Ministry of Prayer in Stockbridge is looking for faithful Catholic volunteers to answer phones, pray for intentions received, and light candles in our candle shrine. We pray with and for petitioners, but we do not offer advice or counseling.

VOLUNTEER AT MERCY HOSPITAL:  Mercy Medical

Center is looking for caring people to volunteer throughout the hospital. Many positions are available. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and able to give 4 hours a week of their time. If you are interested, please contact the Mercy Medical Center Volunteer Department at 413-748-9074.

CARMEL SPRINGFIELD There will be a bus to the O’Giglio e Paradiso: “Giglio Sunday” in Brooklyn NY, on Sunday, July 12th The price of the bus is $25 and includes the tip for the driver. MARY’S 2009 DAY TRIPS St. Mary’s Church is sponsoring the following trips: SHEAR MADNESS, a bus trip to Boston to see this hilarious show on Sunday, July 19th  The bus leaves St. Mary’s at 10:00 AM & returns approx. 6:30 PM. Lunch is on your own prior to the show, drop off point Quincy Mkt., cost is $54 p.p. includes bus, driver’s gratuity & show. RICKY NELSON “REMEMBERED” Thursday, Aug. 13th at the Aqua Turf in Ct. Ricky’s twin sons will pay tribute to their father by singing many of his memorable hits. Cost is $93 per person includes bus, driver’s gratuity, family-style luncheon and the show. NEW YORK CITY Sunday, September 13th . The bus leaves St. Mary’s at 7AM and returns approx. 8PM. $40 per person. CATHOLIC CONCERT & FESTIVAL The parish community of All Souls & Blessed Sacrament will mark the feast of St. John the Baptist with a concert & family festival. The festival will be held the weekend of June 26th, 27th, and 28th at the grounds located at 445 Plainfield St. in Springfield. International artists will perform live on stage. There will be many activities along with sensational Latin food.  Children’s activities include face painting, arts & crafts, and inflatable bouncing houses. Come & join the fun admission is free.        THREE BISHOPS AND THE APOSTLE PAUL

An evening of Pastoral reflections for the Pauline Year with Bishop Timothy McDonnell, Lutheran Bishop Margaret Payne and Episcopal Bishop Gordon Scruton will be held on Monday, June 29th at 7:00 PM at St. Michael’s Cathedral, Springfield. Open to all, free of charge. Refreshments will be served.

 

SAINT MARY’S PARISH PANTRY

Sincere appreciation is extended to those who contribute to our food pantry at the rectory. The pantry has been recycled & all outdated supplies have been thrown out. PLEASE do not donate OUTDATED FOOD we can’t use them or give them to anyone.

SUPPLIES ARE LOW; CERTIFICATES ARE NEEDED

Donations of non-perishable food may be left in the containers located at all church entrances.  NEEDED:  Soup & Stew, Pasta & Sauce, Canned Tuna/Meat, canned vegetables, Paper Products, Laundry and Hand Soap.  Please do not leave cans that are dented or outdated.

Boys and Girls who will be enrolled in Grade Four or higher in September are invited to become Altar Servers.  Other eligibility requirements are listed on the Altar Server Guidelines that are posted on the bulletin board in the Social Center lobby.  APPLICATION FORMS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THAT LOCATION.  PLEASE RETURN THE APPLICATION FORM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

The youngsters training sessions will be offered late August.

A PRAYER DAY SERVICE will be held July 3rd at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Springfield. The Service will begin at 9AM with Mass and Benediction. This will be followed throughout the day with praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for World Peace. The Service will end around 3:30 PM. For more information call Henry Zephir 413-525-3351

JEWELRY FUNDRAISER The Holyoke-based Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi will sponsor a used and broken jewelry collection on Saturday, June 27th from 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM at St. Stanislaus School, Chicopee. A jewelry specialist will be available to weigh the items and assess their value. A receipt will be issued for that amount, which may then be donated to the sisters.
